Let’s talk about the bad days – you will (both) have them

A puppy is an adorable, incredibly rewarding, and loving best friend who you will definitely want to kill some days.

In the way that sometimes you want to kill your brother, or best friend.

I’m sure Pinot feels the same way some days too.

As much as you believe in positive reinforcement training, there will be a morning walk where you yell at her for almost pulling your arm off as she tries to eat a fish fin. Then there will be another day where you scream into the universe because she won’t stop trying to bite your feet and now that she has teeth it really hurts.

There will be days you want to rip your hair out because it seems like she’s forgotten everything you’ve spent the last two months teaching her.

It’s okay. Just breathe.

At least that’s what I tell myself (I’m not always that convincing).

Pinot is a lot of work, she’s high energy and highly intelligent dog. But damn, she can be frustrating.

It’s okay. Just breathe.

She’s helping me find stability in my overactive thoughts. But damn, if she can’t also be the most annoying 21 pound creature.

It’s okay. Just breathe.

She shows me unconditional, uncontrollable love every day. And I love her that much too, but sometimes we need a breather.

You know how when you spend too much alone time with one other human, you start to get on each other’s nerves. Well turns out it happens with a canine. Especially, during a pandemic when the only two-legged creatures you see daily are your parents.

Pinot is the best thing to happen to me. Period.

But a puppy is a lot of work. And we both have bad days.

She has days where she’s frustrated or extra stubborn (obviously I don’t know what she’s thinking, but that’s how it feels to me). I have days where I let the small things get the best of me.

It’s okay. Just breathe.
